Cotton Fabrics, Batting, Thread, fusible web, embellishments

What was your inspiration?

A picture of my husband the first time he met our horse, McLaren. This was a strip robin project done with members of the Coos Sand 'N Sea Quilt Guild. We each brought in a photo blown up to poster size and cut into 5 strips. We then exchanged strips and worked on translating those images into fabric. I did the center panel of my quilt since it required the most work, including making my husband's image!

I did needle turn applique on my section. Some of the other sections include raw edge applique with fusible web, couching fibers, machine embroidery, some really nice work! In exchange I did a waterfall section, a beach, a boat strip, and another landscape section in other ladies quilts. They all came out absolutely amazing!

After it was finished, my husband requested that I added the lettering. I designed this part in EQ7 and fused the words on using gold lame. I quilted wood grain in the border to make it look like a frame. My husband loves this quilt and it hangs in his home office!

What are you most proud of?

How well all the strips fit together, though this was a cooperative effort made in strips by 5 quilters! Well, that and the quilting - I love how my quilting came out!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Stretch yourself, and try something new. I don't consider myself to be good at this type of design work, but it came out well!

I love pictorial quilting (landscapes). This is nice. My son and his wife live in Coos Bay area.

This is such an interesting way to make a quilt from a picture. Normally, I'm not keen on pictorial quilting, but I love the different ways the strips are done. It adds so much interest!
