Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this cake: Any of the fondant classes on here give some great tips for working with fondant in all areas. This cake was suppose to be a Zoo animal themed cake. Due to the amount of travel time between my house and it's destination we stuck to multiple cakes instead of tiered cakes. The person also wanted 3 different flavors and 2 different smash cakes for pictures. most of the fondant you will be able to easily color, but when I am making something other then small accents with black fondant, I typically buy it already colored. I used 3 lbs of fondant, some modeling chocolate for the monkeys and trees, gum paste to make the fondant stiffer and I used the butter cream frosting recipe from the free modern butter cream class here on Craftsy. It is the best Swiss butter cream recipe I have found and everyone has loved it.

What are you most proud of? I loved how the lion turned out and the giraffe. It was my first time making something like this and it was a lot fun.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? never under estimate the usefulness of round icing tips with making fondant faces. I never realized just how much I would use them for something besides icing my cakes.

I know the class was for making people as toppers, but the information was great when it came time to make this cake. The big thing was giving myself enough time to make mistakes and enough time to allow the bodies to harden more before adding the heads, especially the giraffe.
