Quilt Kit bought at JoAnn Fabrics

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Children

Style: Funky, Mod, Cute, Whimsical, Casual

Materials

Fabric from a kit purchased on clearance. Thread. Fusible batting.

What was your inspiration?

The clearance price on the kit! I got a real deal and love the vibrant colors.

What are you most proud of?

Finally finishing it! I sewed it, batted it, backed it, stitched-in-the-ditched it, and started binding it... then got stuck. It took some time and research to figure out how to join the binding seamlessly where the beginning and end meet.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't discard your scraps! They came in really handy when I was learning to do the Broken Spider string block during Craftsy' free Block of the Month class.

I adore these colours - all those reds and pinks and purples that should, by rights, have clashed dreadfully, have all come together to make an absolute knock-out of a quilt! Gorgeous!

Thanks Pat. Wish I could take credit for putting the fabrics together - but alas I bought a kit (on clearance, yeah!).

I love this quilt Jean! The colors are beautiful and you've done a wonderful job. How fun to have it for your grandson to sleep under! I really liked the broken spider block! I haven't had a chance to do much lately ... but I usually have 2 or 3 projects going at a time. The challenge is finishing them! Keep up the good work!

Jean the colours in this are so vibrant - you have again made a statement with this quilt to - you have put a lot of work into it and it shows. Well done.

Wow, this is colourful! LOVE IT!!! What size is the quilt? Love the stripe fabric for the binding. I am scared to use stripes, 'cause it could look crooked if not sewn right. But your binding looks PERFECT!!! <3

Thanks MirkaMas! It finished out a t 42" x 52". Binding is the perfect place for stripes. Press fabric flat. Then match the lines as you press folded. Watch those lines when cutting strips. Then as you complete your binding check every so often to make sure the stripes are perpendicular with the edge. To use stripes diagonally you make a 45 degree slant in the print when folding. Give them a try. With your skills I'm sure you'll do well.

Forgot to mention - I've set myself a goal to finish projects in the works before beginning anything new (except BOM!). This was on the list - along with several others. Also- I finished this just before my grandson arrived for a long visit. He loved sleeping under it even in sunny FL. He's used to a heavier quilt at home. So, its been washed a lot. He's not quite night dry yet, and still comes out soft and bright!

Love this! I've made over 20 quilts, and I still have to get out the directions to join the binding strips!

LOVE the fabric colors and pattern! Great job! This is a totally fun quilt. I know what you mean about joining the binding - I still have to think that out every time because I like joining it with a diagonal seam to match the seams I use for sewing the binding strips together.

How to get that diagonal seam was my challenge! I was determined to do it and finally managed.
