What was your inspiration?
Mostly I sew clothing and accessories, but every few years I make my mom a quilt for Christmas. She uses them to decorate her home. I stuck to green and blue as a color palette because those are my mom's favorite colors and she likes all her quilts to harmonize. She has quite a few on display at once.
I was so happy to find Craftsy's block of the month, because I was looking for a new block to use that didn't require much precise measurement (I'm really not a quilter), could use scraps, and had a traditional vibe that mom would like. Her last quilt was a traditional log cabin. So this time I used May's block of the month, which was fun and easy.
What are you most proud of?
On this quilt I tried free motion quilting for the first time ever!! It actually came out pretty good. I used little loop-de-loops as a filler for the entire quilt. The other thing I'm proud of is it is done way before Christmas so I can relax!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
I've loved all the Craftsy classes I've tried so far. This one is free (thanks Craftsy!!)! Give it a try, there are many different blocks, and it's all shown on video for you to follow along. You can make a quilt with one block or all of them.
