This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Magical Jelly Roll Quilts »

Instructions

Be careful sewing together your squares. My first attempt left me short when joining the blocks even though I used a scant 1/4 inch. Turned out to be the heavier weight of the background fabric I chose. When doing the 2nd quilt with the same weight I had no problems.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Charity

Style: Cute, Traditional, Whimsical, Casual

Materials

Jelly roll, charm pack, fat quarter and coordinating yardage, thread, low loft batting.

What was your inspiration?

The colors in the fabric line I chose.

What are you most proud of?

After goofing with my first attempt I bought different background fabric and made another quilt that came out great! And.. I finally finished both tops helping me to reach my goal of finishing things in the works BEFORE beginning more new projects.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Try several layouts. This block is very versatile and you can achieve a lot of different looks. I also like the border on the 1st quilt. Unfortunately I didn't have enough fabric to put one on the 2nd. Sew a practice block and square it up before going all out. Had I done this I would have caught the problem with my 1st quilt up front. In the long run it doesn't matter. I now have two quilts which would make a nice gift for twins!

Thanks nalaha3! These were a couple of my earliest quilts. I used jelly roll strips, charm squares, and yardage for the yellow solids. The green backing was "matching" fabric available when I bought the pre-cuts. I really like the colors a lot. Thx again :D

Love the colours... then on closer inspection I see I used a charm pack of the same fabrics in my first quilt! Like the greens, very nice.

Love this one too! Thanks for the tidbit as I didn't realize weight would make a difference! Love your motto...finish one before starting a new project ....I need to hang that on my wall!

Jean, I love your Jacob's Ladder quilt - looks so lovely and bright. I agree with you, this one you have to square up and be sure before going on. - you will finish your projects soon at this rate. Great work.

Jean, I cannot sew a straight line even on my machine but hey we get there in the end. My list of to do is getting longer and longer with both the patchwork and cross stitch - would like another lifetime I think!!!!
