Filigree Cake

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:

Type of item: Food

For: Other

Style: Traditional, Classic

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to make an antique style cake using the techniques I learned in this class.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of my happy accident. I wanted to make a brown edging between the two layers. When I was mixing my fondant color in the kitchen, I got the perfect brown color. When I looked at the color in the living room under different lighting, it was purple. I didn't like the look on the cake when I finally got it on, so I decided to paint it brown. I did not have any brown petal dust to make a brown paint, but I did have cocoa powder. When the paint dried, it cracked and let the fondant color show through from underneath. This color ended up being the same color as some of my other accents. I am very pleased with the result.

After 12 hours of work (not including the flowers), I was done looking at it... plus I had around 250 photos. I'm glad you like it.
