Felted Entrelac Neck Warmer

Felted Entrelac Neck Warmer

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Entrelac Knitting »

Instructions

This neck warmer is made just like the first project in the course, but then it is was machine washed in hot water (on purpose) to felt it. It was dried flat (not run through the dryer).

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Casual, Outdoorsy, Funky

Materials

This was made with Rowan Colorscape (which is now discontinued).

What was your inspiration?

This was the "test" project before I actually worked up the "real" projects for the class. I have had several questions about options for the neck warmer, so I thought I would show an example of the project felted.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Remember that the project will shrink both in height and circumference so plan for that. It will also make a "stiffer" fabric.

I made a wool one also, and found the fabric was too scratchy for my neck, so I was going to felt mine to. Just thought it would turn out more the size of a clutch/purse when I got done, we will see!

Just keep an eye on it during the felting process and you can "manage" the shrinkage.

I just finished the first project and thought it would look great felted, but I was worried that it would shrink too much since usually felted items are made bigger to allow for shinkage. I'm so happy to see that this works as a felted piece....into the washer it goes!

Please make sure the share the results. Remember felting is not necessarily consistent! But my guess is it will be fine

I like the idea of gradated colors - so pretty. Dye pots - here I come!!
