Instructions

I invented this as a way to learn how to use circular needles and knit in the round. I started with the handle. When it was long enough, I cast on stitches for one side of the bag, then picked up the cast-on end of the handle, then cast on more stitches for the other side of the bag. I then knit in the round until I had about half a ball left. I put stitch markers at 4 even intervals around ...

Materials

2 x 50g balls of a hand-painted yarn I fell in love with

What was your inspiration?

I loved the yarn, but it was too expensive to buy a lot, and I'd bought a circular needle the same day. I was traveling, had no craft project on hand, and the bag just got invented on the fly as I was playing with my new purchases.

What are you most proud of?

Working out that I could pick up the cast-on edge meant there was no extra making-up to do after I cast off - just weave in the 2 ends and it's done!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Remember felted fabric shrinks more in the row height than width, so make sure your handle isn't too short.

It doesn't have a pattern - I just made it up as I went. I think the handle was 8 stitches wide and about 80 rows long. Then cast on an extra 52 stitches for each side of the bag (total 120 stitches in cluding 2 sides and 2 ends of handle). There's about 72 rows before the base decreases start. If you have 120 stitches, place 4 stitch markers, and decrease 2 at each stitch marker, you'll finish the base after 15 rows. I hope that helps! .
