Felt Play Food

Pattern Info

Pattern info for this project can be found here:
»

Category: Other

Type of item: Toy

For: Children

Style: Cute, Traditional, Funky, Casual

Materials

Felt of choice, hand sewing needle, embroidery floss, polyester fiberfil.

What was your inspiration?

There are so many sites out there that are selling patterns for felt play food that I wanted to make some for my great niece and nephews. But, I didn't want to spend the money on patterns. I figured that I could just look at the food, trace it when I could and just go from there.

What are you most proud of?

I won third place at the State Fair of Texas 2010 in the felt category!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't think of all of the pieces at one time. Pick one thing, say a slice of bread, and go from there. Draw it out on paper and just have fun with it!

I make these, too. You're right, it is fun! I think it's like 3rd grade art class. My granddaughter will be getting bananas, oranges, apples, strawberries, eggs, pop tarts and lots of other stuff for her 2nd birthday in June. I really don't like to use felt very much. I prefer cotton or flannel and I think it will wash better.

I make these too, and do a pretty good living at it but very, very time consuming. But, I love the idea of entering my stuff in the State and county fairs here in California! Thanks for the inspiration :)

Excellent! I would have to have a pattern. No talent for drawing. You should be very proud of these.

I am doing a cake for the entry this year...we will see. Last year, they had it on the little bitty partial wall in the back corner down and across from the jams.
