Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Craftsy Block of the Month 2013 with Laura Nownes »

Instructions

Measure to cut & sew the scant 1/4" seams carefully. This block is all about precision.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Casual, Traditional

Materials

Cotton fabrics and thread

What was your inspiration?

The fabrics in a FQ bundle & Crafty's 2013 BOM. Many many thanks to all who helped me decide about the stripes in the middle.

What are you most proud of?

Only had to trim slivers from all blocks.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you're using Fat Quarters you need cut only two (2) strips per FQ. Use the long side (22") which yields six (6) of the 3 1/2" strip segments. Each month figure out how much fabric you need before cutting. In January I double cut for a full WOF strip. I didn't need to for the centers and ended up with two extra strips of the stripe. I decided to use that in the center of this block.

Thank you artbythebay! The collection is Timeless Treasures "Viviene Pink and Green". I bought a FQ bundle on sale from Craftsy some time ago.

Jean, sorry ready you not sure about the layout of this block. I think they're great. I played with my fabrics before I selected which to use for this block and even then I auditioned the order I'd put them in before settling on the final block design. I'm sure that whatever decision you make your quilt will be lovely.

Thanks dkaym. I did the same thing - "auditioning" them" but I didn't include the center fabric when I chose the stripes. I had extra striped strips left over from cutting too many for January. I chose to use them to save fabric. Big mistake! Next time I'll audition ALL the pieces! That said .. the block has grown on me and lots of fellow BOMers like it. So I"m using as is.
