Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Design It, Quilt It: Free-Form Techniques »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Casual

Materials

This was my first "project" after practicing feathers and scribbles. I used a 10 inch wreath template with a partial template for the corner designs. The fabric is basic muslin. Batting recipe: bamboo/cotton with 1/2 layer of Hobbs wool batting. Design is quilted with 70 wt poly quilting thread, cream. Background was stitched with 40 wt poly, celery green. While "scribbling" I practiced feathers and ribbon candy designs. What fun!!!

What was your inspiration?

Cindy's class gave me the ideas for this project. Normally I would simply quilt the wreath and leave it at that. I understand more of what makes a quilt interesting!

What are you most proud of?

My husband said he would like to see this practice piece framed after it is finished!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Relax and have fun, this is therapy afterall!

Gosh - this is lovely! I'd be delighted if I could do a practise piece that looked like this. Definitely needs to be on display!

CeeJay the project is awesome! It is so beautiful. I'm still practicing. Which method did you use to traceyour design, e.g. the Sulvy clear stabilizer, paper, pouncing chalk, or drew directly on the fabric?

I used the frixion pens Cindy used in her class. Found them online at Amazon. Love them!

I used the stencil and drew directly on the fabric with the frixion gel pen. Love those markers!

Wow, it looks so perfect it could have been computerized. So pretty. I like the outer motifs framing it.

Funny you should say that. Before taking Cindy's class, I used to search for digitized quilting designs for my embroidery machine! They are perfect, but my largest hoop will only do a 7.9 inch square.

Wow! Your feathers and corners are simply amazing...what a beautiful job you've done! Love how the wool puffs up and makes it look like trapunto. Your husband was right...needs to be framed...if not that, at least bind it and hang it! Congratulations :)

Cindy, I really must applaud you for your teaching skills! I have been happy with my piecing skills, but not my quilting. Thanks to you and Craftsy for supplying such a wonderful and convenient learning platform!
