okay i have a few questions here: 1 i don't have a back drop for a family photo. I have a few families that would like me to do their photo's for christmas! 2: using just plan white white wall okay for background ?

Question for you, you have any parks near where you live? A plain white wall can work, but can also be just that...plain. Why not shoot the portraits of the families in and around their homes?

Look around. I'm sure you can find lots of cooler backgrounds than a white wall.

Just curious how many are using bigger apertures to put more of the backgrounds out of focus in their photographs?

I'm a big fan of using shallow depth of field. It just makes my subject POP, so yes... I use it very often. Mainly for portraits with a nice, soft light!
