I set this pattern at an intermediate level. It requires 3 skeins of Estelle?s Cloud Cotton ? orange, brown, and red. However, there is enough left over to knit a second cowl if you change which color is main. The pattern includes box pleats, cables, and braids. Since each section is worked individually, beginner + knitters looking for a challenge should be able to complete this project. The ...Read full instructions »

What was your inspiration?
I'm blessed to live in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. Each year brings so many changes to the environment right outside my window. I was inspired by images of Fall while searching through old photos.
The "Fall Twist Cowl" braids and cables Estelle's Cloud Cotton into a cozy cowl perfect for the changing seasons. The warmth of the organic cotton snuggles you close as the colors reflect the changes occurring in nature. Accented with a recycled clay button, this cowl will keep you in comfort and style as you explore the beauty of Fall.
What are you most proud of?
I took the time to figure out the easiest way to construct my vision. Originally, I tried to braid the braid section while knitting. But the directions were very complex to make everything even. So after a few false starts, I ended up working each section individually. This made a complex design easy to work. Also, by using a provisional cast on I was able to replicate the cast off much more easily.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
This is definately one to sip hot chocolate and sit on the front porch to knit. Enjoy the stunning beauty of the changing seasons while knitting something for your Fall romp in the leaves. It can be finished in just a weekend!
