Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Clothing

For: Unisex

Style: Hipster, Retro / Vintage, Traditional, Classic, Cute, Casual

Materials

100% Shetland wool

What was your inspiration?

Old family images from the Shetland Museum.

What are you most proud of?

I designed it and knit several in less than a month. I was careful to make it easy enough for beginners but still appealing to advanced knitter. The colorwork progresses from very easy small peerie patterns to fairly complex OXO border patterns, the first one is easier than the second. Your skills will build as you knit the vest! I also wanted to design a vest that would look just as nice in only two colors.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take you time, relax and enjoy yourself.

fiddlestickchic, Both Yarn Barn in Virginia and Weaving Works in Seattle have kits for the class. The information is on the "Announcements" board. Craftsy is offering a kit in Cascade 220 DK. I have not knit with this yet, but I think some of your classmates may have.

Is there a kit for this class?? It might be easier for some of us first timers at Fair Isle to follow the colors that are shown on the chart that I peeked at,,,, Thanks! LOVE this vest!

So pretty......and to think it was designed especially for us to learn!!! My nieces tell me that Fair Isle is very 'in' with the younger crowd, and I have seen it quite a bit in catalogs and magazines.

It was all over the runways of Paris and New York last fall. I think it is here to stay for a while. There is so much fun you can have with Fair Isle knitting. I've got many vests on my Pinterest "Knit Love: page. I keep finding more!
