A teaching moment. First off, these are ten Old Italian Blocks. They are similar to the Arrowhead in that they do have diagonals and are made with two fabrics but are constructed differently. They were pieced by "Linda" one day in a class on board the ms Westerdam. She made them in a quilting class I taught in April 2014 while we cruised the Panama Canal. I'm sharing this image because I was fascinated by her use of fabric. Often, one scrutinizes one block, perhaps too intensely. These blocks are a reminder, to me at least, to get a lot of eggs (blocks) into a basket before judging one's work. This work spoke to me; I haven't used a graphic palette of black/white and ochre/yellow but I admire her selection. If you are interested in pursuing the Old Italian Block, refer to pages 49-52 in Rotary Cutting Revolution, the eBook PDF included in our Craftsy class Materials.
