Instead of using fusible interfacing (which I used for my 1st set of exposed zipper bags) in between the two layers of fabric, I used batting instead to make the bags softer and cushioned.
I like how the bags with batting feel, but it was definitely more difficult to serge. My tip is to manually cut through the layers of fabric before serging instead of letting the machine do the cutting -- too many layers of thick material.

Wow! That is one very unhappy needle- I can't believe it didn't break! Yes, batting is a bit more difficult to serge, because there are many more fibers that the needles have to fight against. But, I love the way the bags look with it! The polka dots are adorable (as are the kitties).
Wow, these are really cute and awesome workmanship ! I have been wanting to attempt this very bag, I sometimes have issues with zippers ...ugh !! I actually bought a bunch of them real cheap to pratice with, LOL !! You used your serger.....? yep, I do use mine too. I don't leave might out , so I must admit, that sometimes I just forget that I have it !
