Exposed Zipper Bag

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Beginner Serging: Machine Basics & Techniques »

Instructions

The most difficult thing for me other than the tensions, was putting the tabs in. First I didn't get them caught in the thread, then I put two on together (which I feel is a new design element :))

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Functional

For: Unisex

Style: Cute, Casual

Materials

cotton fabric; fusible fleece; zipper

What are you most proud of?

I had so much fun making them--even with the frustration of many events of "unsewing"--They turned out so nice I want to make more for others. Eventually I hope to get the tensions perfect. But then that's what this project is for--learning how to use a serger. I feel its a great first project for this class.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Good material would probably work better than cheap. Use thread that matches the lining. (I used a green thread on my yellow lining because it was what I had--looked terrible), Pay attention to putting the tabs in--even raise them a little about the edge so they will be caught in the thread.

They're adorable! I love the polka dots, but the quilting on the blue bag is just perfect. You did a wonderful job, even if your tensions needed a bit of adjusting. They're great!
