Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Beginner Serging: Machine Basics & Techniques »

Instructions

Make sure you use:
A solid fusible interface: Fleece seems to hold really well so that the bag holds still. I used a regular medium weight for collars and my bag looks droopy when empty.
Avoid using zippers with metal teeth. These might ruin your serger! Try to use the most pliable ones you can find.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Holiday, Cute

Materials

16 inch.Zipper, 2 scraps of fabric or fat quarters, fleece fusible

What was your inspiration?

Had some fabric remnants, one of them is a very sturdy one that I thought it would be perfect to make a heavy duty bag.

What are you most proud of?

Learning how to properly use my serger
Gaining confidence serging. Had my Brother 1034 D in a box for five years! Now, I don't feel scared to thread, I am using wooly and decorative threads.
Have to say I made a good choice with this class. Best value!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Make sure you work with fabrics that have medium weight for this project.
If you don't feel comfortable using serger to serge the zipper, just use your sewing machine. In the long run, you are taking care of your serger. My serger did not like this particular part. I felt I was pushing my luck too much... since I can't afford a more heavy duty machine, I rather play it safe and save money on repairs at the dealer.

Even when it's upside down, it's still super cute! ;) You did a great job my dear, and I'm proud of you for getting your machine out of the box and putting it to WORK!

I am sorry for the upside down pictures. I don't know how to fix them. They appear ok but after I upload they appear upside down. Sorry about that. If somebody knows how to fix this please share!
