My jeans are now too big?

Pants in the past had waist bands to go over the belly button. Now they go under. I learned to take the waist band entirely off a long time ago if I liked a pair of old fashioned jeans and I weare them to this day. The photo of the jeans the waistband was removed, elastic inserted, then a bow belt around the waist for what reason, looks. I had the idea of taking the waist band off as I do, then sewing a pretty scarflike belt as shown in the pic. It would be permanent so a neutral pattern or even plain material would work. I am going to try this on one of my jeans I already have the waist band. Of course, taking a waist band off jeans is difficult because of the belt loops, but I suppose if you like the jeans, it isn'[t that much trouble. He y a person can do all sorts of things if they set their mind to it.

Congratulations on your weight loss! Depending on how much you need to take in, this may work for you. When I was a kid, my mother would just take in the wasteband just a pinch on the sides (right above the seam) and stitch the band on each side. You can always cut the seam open to make them lie flat. Trim the cut open seams at a slight angle, and the seams won't poke out of the top. You can always stitch them down along the top stitching line if the seam bothers you. If it's more than an inch or two the elastic would work, but you would have to undo a section of the waistband. Let's say, it's about 5 inches you need to take in. Rip the seam out to this plus 1 in each side. Mark the center back 2 1/2 in each side (on the inside waistband). Stretch a piece of 1 in (width) elastic out to the same length plus 1 in for seam. Don't overstretch, you want it to be comfortable. Insert the elastic as far up as you can and sew the elastic to the underside of the inside (the part that will lay against your back) waistband along the points you just marked. Stretch the elastic over to the other side and tack it down. Repin the waistband to the jeans being careful to not catch the elastic, and reattach to the jeans. Sew over the seams that tacked down the elastic. Hope this helps!

This is a great remedy. What would you suggest if the jeans waist is too big? I have lost some weight and I have new jeans that are too big now. i want to revamp them because they are pretty new. I was thinking of sewing darts in the back, but not sure how that would look. The seams are flat felled so I don't know how to take them in from the sides, which would probably look better but I don't know how to tackle this. Any ideas?
