Pattern Info

Pattern info for this project can be found here:

Instructions

I used the lid to a plastic pitcher to make the circles to sew on to the background color. Then pieced it all together. My neighbor quilted it and I put the binding on. There is a name for this quilt, but can't remember it.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Children

Style: Cute

Materials

Cotton, batting, and minky (?)

What was your inspiration?

Saw my neighbor's and thought this was something I could make!

What are you most proud of?

I love my color choices and that it is done. :)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I am just above a beginner in quilting ability. Take your time piecing the circle together so that the outside edges line up. And if not, keep your seam ripper close by and do it again! :)

Great job but how did you get the circle

First, my circles were cut from a 6in-to 61/4in tupparware pitcher lid. Then I cut the circles into 4ths and sewed them onto my yellow flannel squares leaving a quarter in seam as I sewed them on. But I did a little research and found on a site called "cluckclucksew.com" she show a tutorial on a quilt called raw edge circle quilt. SHe does her a little different than I did, but ends up with the same concept. Hope this helps.

That's a great job on a beginner quilt - I am a beginning longarm quilter and am anxious to try it out on some real quilts instead of the muslin I have been practicing on - now I have to sit at my regular machine and make some charity quilts to practice my longarm stitching on.

Another easy way is to use blanket stitch to stitch circle to a square, then cut the square into four equal squares and mix them up and sew them back together. If you do raw edge applique, then maybe you wouldn't want to center the circle each time so they would not be perfect ... the edges would become soft with washing ... sometimes when things don't line up they are perfect ... lol

I'd like to do a project like this. I've made a compass using QuiltSmart, and this looks like just as much fun.

YOu could also put the fabric for the circles together then place the round container to mark the fabric then cut out your circle and there you have a perfect circle. Applique the circles on.

Your blanket looks great. I hope to get to this point in my quilting. Can make any garment or home decor, just starting quilting.

VERY NICE.. I ALSO LIKE TO MAKE LAP BLANKETS, I'M NOT THAT GOOD AT IT, BUT I MAKE THEM FOR BABY GIFT, EVERY ONE SEEMS TO LIKE THEM. BUT I DO KNOW THAT I SEEM TO BE MY WORST CRITIC. I LIKE APPLIQUEING. AND I USE MY DINNER OR SALAD PLATES FOR CIRCLE.. GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND GOD BLESS..

Did you sew the circles together first then sew them onto the background< or did you sew the quarter circle to a square and then put it together in blocks??
Andie S. on craftsy.com
Nov 01, 2011   Flag as inappropriate
Sewed the quarter pieces on to the square, then put it together. The trick for me was making sure I had the different color for each circle, oh, then keeping my rows numbered, cuz I would goof that up a few times. But it looks good now! :)

This looks like a take on the old drunkard's path quilt pattern. Quarter circles are sewn to arches, and the resulting squares are pieced together.

Found a web site called www.cluckclucksew.com and she shows a tutorial for her Raw edge circle quilt. Its basically the same concept as mine, but mine has less colors and I cut my circles into forths before I sewed them on. This way I could make my rows and know what color to put next. Hope this helps.
