What was your inspiration?
My husband and I went to the shooting range and my mind thinks in weird ways...so after we finished using up all our bullets, I thought what a waste all those empty shells were. Then the light click on...and next thing I knew I was looking for ways to create earrings with bullet casings. I took the Jewelry Class here with Max and learned how to etch metal. And now I am very confident in making these earrings.
What are you most proud of?
Well, this is a tough one, but what I think I am the most proud of, are my boys! They both have learned to be crafty from having a crafty mom. They both can use a sewing machine, paint, draw, and even make chain maille. My eldest has a masters degree, and knows 6 different languages and my youngest is working on his bachelors in computer gaming.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Safety is always number 1... when working with acid you really need to make sure you wear protection. Do lots of research and take eclasses to learn from a variety of artists. I love Youtube for all the fun videos of others who share their ways to use different tools and techniques for etching. There is always more than one way to do things...find what works best for you.
