Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Girls

cotton fabric, polyester batting

What was your inspiration?

, this is Erin's big girls quilt. Erin and Bree are only 10 months apart, so this was made last March.
Erin is my happy go lucky, beaming smile grand daughter, wanted a quilt with cheerful colors, favorite color is pink, she loves butterflies ever since she 'grew' painted lady butterflies as a project, the colors reminded me a bit of the 60's so, the name flower power!
i felt like this quilt is as cheery as she is, as usual, I left some room to hand quilt, the girls are all fascinated by the big frame, hoping that i have 4 future quilters on my hands!

What are you most proud of?

I'm always proud to make something my grand girls love!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

if you do this pattern by cutting a large 9 patch into smaller blocks, be very precise when you cut, it's not a forgiving block if you are off!
it can be pieced the more traditional way, which is a bit easier...

I've been looking at quilts on this site for two hours and I think this is my favorite pattern. Not only are your colors among my favorite, but I am always drawn to works that cut up and larger piece and reassemble it. Thanks for sharing:)

This one is also a Treasure. I really enjoy your quilting & the designs that you decide to put on your quilts. One of the girls in our quilting group has her daughter making one. It is turning out wonderfully. Thanks again for sharing.

i like quick and easy piecing, since my favorite part of making quilts is the hand quilting!

Beautiful hand quilting! I have just made a quilt using the same technique on the 9 patch blocks - I love it - looks so much more complicated than it really is! thank you for sharing your beautiful quilt

thank you! i agree its easy to do and looks more complicated than it is, which is fine by me, since i'd rather do the quilting than the piecing!
