What was your inspiration?

Erika is my grandson's college sweetheart. They both received their Bachelor in Arts degrees on May 12, 2012. My grandson Jay majored in Mathematics and Erika's major is Marine Biology, a field in which she is continuing her studies at the graduate level. What better gift for her than a necklace representing the sea with the unusually-shaped shell shards and cultured freshwater pearls in complementary colors. Although my indoor photography with artificial lighting does not capture the true colors (because I finished the necklace the evening before the college commencement ceremony), the shells range from champagne to gold in color and the pearls are a lovely shade of ivory.

What are you most proud of?

The theme of the sea and carrying it out with lively and youthful beads.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Same as always -- have fun!
