What was your inspiration?
My friend Emily drew a picture of a costume she wanted to have made. I succumbed to her puppy dog eyes and agreed to make it for her. I had never done pleats before and was a little bit reluctant. She had some very definite ideas about what she wanted and we were able to make it very like her original drawing. This jacket is paired with a trio of skirts in complementary colors. She did the finishing details herself and made the closures.
What are you most proud of?
Making this with out a pattern and getting the pleat to look that good.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Have someone teach you how to do pleats. Trying to figure them out on your own from a picture was not fun.
