What was your inspiration?

My niece, Olivia, passed away at 4 1/2 mos old from Zelwegger Syndrome - a rare chromosomal genetic disorder. My sister and I began crocheting for charity after Olivia's death in honor of her memory. I designed this preemie pattern for all the little babies born too soon or too ill so they could have some comfort, and the parents can reuse the afghan as a car seat blanket or displayed decoratively in the home.

What are you most proud of?

The dual purpose of the afghan.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

This could be your first round ripple pattern. It is fairly easy for a crocheter who is familiar with reading patterns. Since it is preemie sized, it will work up fast and give you a good primer in round ripple crochet. Please consider donating your finished product to your local hospital NICU.
