This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Magical Jelly Roll Quilts »

Instructions

I followed all the instructor's suggestions and it came out great! The only thing I did differently is that I used matching threads for the applique instead of contrasting threads.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Mod

Materials

Moda Tidepool Batiks

What was your inspiration?

Took the course for Kimberly Einmo's Jelly Roll Quilts. I liked her choice of fabrics so much that I duplicated the quilt top she made for the course. She made this quilt very easy to make and it really did go together quickly.

What are you most proud of?

This is my first real attempt at applique. It was really easy to do and actually fun to put it all together. An instant confidence builder. I would recommend this to anyone.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you follow the course as designed by Kimberly Einmo, you can't go wrong on this project.

What a beautiful quilt! Love your choice of fabrics and incorporating matching threads for the applique. It really helps make the red segments pop. Thanks for sharing such an inspiring quilt.

I love your use of batiks. What made it easy? Did you have a special template or did you make your own? Thanks for sharing your work.

MellenB, the template comes with the Craftsy class, but it's basically an arc that gets appliqued to all four sides of a charm pack (5") square. The squares are then sewn together which gives it the rounded look. Coming from someone with little applique experience, it went together very easily. Glad you liked it!

This looks like such a fun project. A little overwhelming perhaps, but worth the effort. I have lots in my stash that might work. HHHmmmmmmmmm

Looks are truly deceiving when it comes to this project. It is very easy to do! I worked on it, on and off, for just under a week and completed the top with no problems. I hope you try it, it was truly fun.

The way the blocks come together, it's possible to lay them out in endless combinations. Thanks for your comment.
