What was your inspiration?

A charm pack of Birds and Berries by Moda that I received for Christmas. The colours are such that I just couldn't resist putting them together as a small reminder of the springtime to come.

What are you most proud of?

The speed with which this mug rug goes together. The scrappy border is made very quickly - no fiddly squares. It is also very versatile and doesn't have to be in spring colours - all colourways would work really well with this pattern.

It would make a great Easter mug rug or a baptism/confirmation reminder - in fact this mug rug is suitable for all occasions and all year.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Do not worry about any seam matching - it will all work out just fine.
I used a stem stitch for the vine but a simple straight stitch would work well - or if you are really confident with free-style embroidery you could use your machine to add the detail.
I also quilted very close to the edge of the cross which made it stand proud - giving it a 3D effect - just love it.

Bless you for such kind words. It has always been my intention all along to have colourful, fun projects that everybody can afford and enjoy. And they are so good for using scraps and oddments to make them up.
