What materials did you use? Heavy structured furniture wool fabric for shell, rayon lining. Bias binding for hemming.

What are you most proud of? That I actually managed to make it in time, and more or less managed to get the design that I wanted.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? It was rather hard to work with the thick wool. The pressing was difficult, and really important in order to get a nice finish. Probably spent twice the amount of time pressing compared to sewing!

Finally finished the dress just in time for my PhD defence. The neckline is the opera neckline from Suzy Furrers neckline class, I have inverted box-pleats in front and back, sewed down from waist to hips. Fully lined with rayon. Was not quite happy with the neckline, as the lining kind of "falls" down a bit where the neckline stands up/out, therefore added a velvet trimming to hold it all a bit in place. Bolero jacket ready-to-wear, but fits perfectly. Overall quite happy. Although I had envisaged a fuller skirt. Will add more fullness in a next version. The box-pleats open in the front when standing still, but I rather like that effect.
