What materials did you use?
A couple of rolls of duct tape, an old T-shirt, my husband!
What are you most proud of?
That it actually worked! It really is me!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Use a very tight T-shirt, wear your best bra, stand up straight and laugh - a lot!
How do I get directions for making this dress form?
I typed in duct tape mannequin on YouTube and several tutorials came up, I also searched on the internet with that phrase and there were several blogs with instructions. Craftsy also has a knitting class in which making a form is part of the class. I can't remember which class it is, but if you ask Craftsy Help I'm sure they could send you to the right one
look up, daisy explains.
So how do you make it?
There are instructions for several different ways on YouTube and various blogs, also a Craftsy knitting class - see comments below. The general idea is you wear a tight T-shirt that you're willing to sacrifice and have another person carefully tape over it following your shape. Cut
it up the back to get it off, then tape it back up and stuff with newspaper etc. to hold the shape.
That is amazing I would have never thought of it on my own. I want to thank you for sharing your idea and posting it here for everyone. I hope to use my time wisely and make one for me and my mother so we both have one to use. Thanks again.
Thanks! I didn't think it up but whoever originally did has my thanks too - it really has helped as I work on getting back to sewing for myself. Hope you and Mom have fun making it!
how in the world did you get outta it? and what did you put it on once you did?
You need your helper to cut it open - I cut mine up the center back, wriggled out and then taped it closed. I happened to have a wicker dress form that I put it on, then stuffed all the empty spots with newspaper. If I hadn't had that form, I would have put it on a hanger and done a lot more stuffing! If you check the internet for how-tos, there are instructions to make a stand for it.
