Sewing: dress for son's wedding

dress for son's wedding

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Plus-Size Pattern Fitting & Design »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Plus-sized

Style: Retro / Vintage

Materials

Shantung and organza

What was your inspiration?

Inspiration?! More like desperation! Couldn't find a dress ready made that looked like more than a sack!

What are you most proud of?

Barbara, Didn't have a chance to make the Vogue 8815 due to time constraints before wedding but watched classes and used your techniques to alter and fit a Vintage Vogue pattern 2903. I think it came out great and, judging all the compliments I got, so did everyone else. The yoke material was machine embroidered on a Baby Lock Ellisimo and really set it off. (Note the matching clutch I make!)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Like she says, it's not rocket science, it's sewing! don't be afraid to try something new!

OMG that dress is gorgeous and so are you. I love the little clutch it is a nice feature but does not take away from your beauty or the dress. Very good job. And thank you so much for sharing.

Great job. I agree that as a plus size I am sewing because ready to wear looks horrible.

Really pretty --- and I LOVE the embroidery on the yoke and matching clutch! I also love the line about inspiration vs. desperation! I felt that way about the dress to wear for my own daughter's wedding. Thanks for sharing!
