This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Craftsy Block of the Month 2012 »

Instructions

Pay special attention to how you affix the blades! The more precise, the better the plate!

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Romantic, Classic, Outdoorsy

Materials

My BOM Fabrics

What was your inspiration?

Everyone else in this BOM Course!

What are you most proud of?

I wanted this block to really start unifying my quilt. I also wanted to further the "alien" aspect of the quilt, while still having it solidly earthy. Can you see the portal? I also decided I disliked the center circle, and when I tried it with a large hexie -- WOW -- it just started the process of unifying the whole quilt! I love this block!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Make the quilt You want! And... have Fun!

Alyx, thanks for the Rorschach reference. I typed it 2 or 3 times in my original note, but it just did not look correct. A description was safer. Looks like you and I have a similar warped sense of humor

I am laughing to myself about the "portal". I guess that means the purple spoke that is the background fabric? As I look at it, I see a very large turtle, with too many legs - his head is the fir tree. It's like one of those mental health tests to find out what you can see in a picture.

HI WanJean (I can't quite figure out what to call you -- though I feel like I really *know* you) -- thanks for the kind words. (I also can't tell why some of my responses show up and some don't -- hence the occasional double comment.) Eek.

Doubles, even triples, have happened to me too. Its a Craftsy glitch. They told me to click "Flag as inappropriate" to get rid of the extras. The next time you refresh they're gone. Just call me Jean. I'll call you Alyx. We DO know each other now!

Great. Jean it is! I can hardly wait to do the final two blocks -- went and got the templates yesterday. Being behind was a bonus as it allowed me to hear Amy say "these templates are great, you should go get them"! I was so happy to finally figure out something to do to: showcase all my fabrics; and to avoid making the spiky-looking blocks.

Um, er, uh, I'm just going to see what Amy has us do. This is my first-ever quilting experience, so I'm... not sure (most of the time) what I'm doing!
