This is a super cool project that was fun to make. All you need to know is the knitted i-cord, crochet chain stitch, and crochet double stitch.
First, knit about 20 i-cords of similar lengths (preferably with 1 to 2 inch diffence in length). Some should be 3-stitch i-cords and some should be 4-stitch for variation.
Next, chrochet about 10 chain stitch lengths about 2/3 the length of the i-cords. I added beeds and buttons to some of the crochet chain lengths.
Lay everything out in a random pattern, and crochet them together at the tops. Be sure to skip every other stitch on the tops of the i-cords, because the wool will shrink some in the next step.
Now you have a long strip of i-cords and chains. Put this in the washer on its hottest setting. Lay flat to dry and NEVER machine wash it again.
After it dries, crochet a fish-net type scully about 1 inch shorter than your favorite knitted or chrochet hats. Any open stich will work for this, so thst it allows some ventalation under your hat.
