Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Other

Style: Hipster, Classic, Retro / Vintage, Funky, Whimsical

Materials

Pen, paper, GOOD ATTITUDE, machine, thread batting and fabric. Also, the determination to do it.

What was your inspiration?

Instructor made it sound and look so easy for this course. But my true inspiration is my Deceased Uncle, he kept telling me to just try it, Just wish I would have done it while he was still with us.

What are you most proud of?

One of my most proud moments from this project so far, is that I can draw., lol... you have to know the story. I am referred to as Picaso in the art world. My drawings are abstract. When I have to draw. It consists of stick people.

My second proudest moment was just doing it. I was so scared. But, it is only fabric. The worse thing that could happen, I would find out I actually enjoyed it, which, I am.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

NO ONE and NOTHING is perfect. I have had to learn this during my free motion project. I am new to free motion. I am using a home machine to quilt. The one thing I have learned from this is that there is no perfect no matter how long you have been doing this.

GET OUT there and just do it. I know I was really bad at saying, I will in another month. But, time and life is short. Try it, you will at least said you have tried it. To try and fail is better then not at all.

I am ocd. The hardest part to over come was the mistakes. But, Like one other free motion person said, Oh well, you won't remember that 50 stitches later. As well you will just get better with time and practice. Also, Leah Day had said it the best." In the beggining. Most of them will all be UGLY, but over time, Free motion in miscle memory, You get better with practice... Practice... Practice....

Oh did I add, Practice. Do not give up either, Just walk away and come back later. That is what I learned from Jonie Poole book, It is like driving a car, if you are not focused then get out of the vehicle and try it again later. Which adds me to one more tip.. DO NOT STARE AT THE NEEDLE... LOOK AHEAD.

I love all the advice and info that you give about your process! I always feel a bit disappointed when someone doesn't have much to say. I especially like your bit about "..if you are not focused, get out of the vehicle..." Funny and so true! (:

Fun fun fun!!! I am looking forward to starting the practise. Have been trying some FM from another Craftsy Class and this course will just help refine the technique. Your stitching is fantastic and it really does not matter if you are OCD,you are learning to let go.
