What was your inspiration?

I think dragonflies are really interesting and beautiful creatures. They come in a huge range of colours. My craft club make a simple dragonfly using pipecleaners and winding wool, and I first made the knitted version as part of a display.

What are you most proud of?

I am really pleased with the way the wings turned out. The dragonflies look really realistic.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

This is a quick knit, but I would only do it if you are quite good at knitting on four needles with a few stitches. The fiddliest bit is fitting in the wings, although once you have made a few it does get easier. I used 4ply wool, but I think other thicknesses and textures work and have interesting results. It is very easy to print the wings onto acetate using a photocopier or printer, but do make sure you buy the right type for your printer. I made this mistake once.
