What was your inspiration?
I made this for my husband, who is a wood dragon in Chinese astrology... also last year WAS the Year of the Dragon, so that was my inspiration in design. I didn't need much inspiration for this project ~ hexies are super addictive!!
What are you most proud of?
Finishing a big project like this is what I'm most proud of. I used to start many projects that never were finished, it feels great to see something through to completion!
My hand-sewing skills are getting better too, and the more I stitch, the faster I become. I thought it was kind of clever using french knots to quilt with... it was the only way to keep the puffiness in the dragon compared to the dense wood grain quilting of the background. I did the machine quilting on my domestic Singer sewing machine which I'm pretty happy with, but I can always use more practice.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
don't think too much about how much time it will take... just do a little bit every day, and one day you'll be like me and all surprised it's finished... and wondering what to start next!
