Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Adventures in Double-Knitting »

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Other

Style: Traditional

Materials

Universal Yarn: "Double Twist" 100% Acrylic, DK Weight (#3 Light), in Khaki #50036 & Old Rose #50013 with size US 5 needle

What was your inspiration?

This Yarn is silky in texture with a nice sheen. The double twist makes the color change stand out, however the selvage edge is not as crisp as a matte finish yarn would be.

What are you most proud of?

This one was a tongue twister for me as I didn't knit in the continental style. I'm glad that I took the Entrelac Course first, which taught me to knit / purl backwards and helped me think better in three dimensions when knitting, etc. That instruction made to easier for me hold the yarn in my left hand. I'm still VERY slow, but I think that Craftsy is the best possible way to learn new methods of turning a string into something beautiful!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Be patient with yourself and your fingers! It doesn't matter how long any project takes. When you're learning something new, remember that you're "playing" and that it's not a race. When I was younger (I'm 56 now), I thought like a perfectionist and it got in my way of being creative. Now, I realize that undoing and re-stitching is just part of the process and I'm having fun and turning out "perfect" work , so who cares if I had to un-do anything as long as it's right in the end.
