Instructions

I found the instructions for this project at www.cluckclucksew.com under tutorials.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Boys

Style: Funky, Mod, Whimsical

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to make my son a twin size bed quilt in blues, turquoise, and lime green. I really liked that color combination with brown added to it. It's all from random fabric I had in my stash though so I did mess up with the whites. I'm kind of sad about that but really I think it's ok for my first quilt.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Square off the blocks. I didn't do that, but I didn't even know what that meant then.

This is so colorful and graphic. I really had to hunt for those different whites you mentioned. In my opinion, varying shades of background fabric lend interest to a quilt. I think this is fantastic and I bet your son is quite happy with it too!

I'm blown away! This quilt rocks, different shades of white, that it's from your stash (awesome stash btw) and first time quilt??? This caught my eye immediately. Have you washed it? Because it looks so snug and comfy! Great job!

Thankyou!! Yes, I washed it and it crinkled up. I like how it did that because it looks all snugly.

I really like your quilt, particularly the colours. What fabric did you use?

Thanks! Well the fabric is kind of random. The big blue dots are Michael Miller, The lime green birds is Valori Wells, but I really can't remember who the others were.

Thanks! such nice comments. Makes me feel better about the whites too :) I thought I should say though this is my first quilt I pieced together and finished the top, but then it was set aside, since I get sidetracked, while I made another quilt for my youngest son. So it's the second quilt that I've sandwiched and put together :). The top has been sitting in my room since last summer! Feels good not to let it sit there anymore.

That turned out beautiful. I love that color combination as well. That doesn't look like a first-time quilt at all. Great job!

this quilt is a delight! love the colors in it, i don't think the different whites are a mistake,( the whites in my quilts never quite match) it just adds to the magic of your quilt- great job for a first quilt!!

This is great! I'm not sure what you meant by messing up the whites - you mean because they are different shades of white? I think that adds to the design. I really love that green fabric with the birds - and the striped binding!

Thanks :). Yes, I had the fabric with the light blue dashed line on it, then bought the plain white later with the brown & white fabric, but silly me I forgot to take my fabric with me to the store. So I didn't want to buy anymore and just used it. Anyhow, I love the bird fabric too!
