Dots and Flowers Skirt & Top

Dots & Flowers

Our model

Instructions

This was a simple ruffled skirt I made using 8" tall tubes (36" long strips, for a kids size 7), the top I used halter sun dress as a reference, and added the sleeves, flounce and straps so Mom wouldn't get upset with my niece trying to pull the sleeves off shoulder!

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Children

Style: Whimsical, Cute

Materials

Basic cotton quilting material

What was your inspiration?

The great patterns from ModKids! And the desire of my six year old niece who loves all things frilly and twirly

What are you most proud of?

That I'm getting proficient at executing designs on my own. Though I still need to reference patterns, I'm gaining confidence in putting my own spin on them - beyond just embellishments like ribbon or buttons! My construction is getting better and I'm able to get great results the first (okay, maybe second) attempt!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

This is an easy project, be creative in the details to make it your own.

Love this! I am going to try to make something similar for my grandbaby. I wish there were cute patterns for boys without the feminine look to them.

Thank you! I actually bought a yard of each from Hobby Lobby a long time ago and didn't know what to do with it either!
