Pattern Info

Pattern info for this project can be found here:
Vogue 1220, Donna Karan

Instructions

Make a muslin. With all the detail, a trial run was very helpful.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Traditional, Classic

Materials

Stretch cotton poplin purchased from Vogue Fabrics.

What was your inspiration?

The pattern itself inspired me. When I saw this eggplant colored fabric on sale on the Vogue Fabrics Website, I knew it wanted to be this dress.

What are you most proud of?

The detail on the collar and shoulders.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Definitely make a muslin. And even when making the garment from your fashion fabric, hand sew the collar and shoulder before taking it to the machine. The pattern is well drafted and goes together well.

This is beautiful in eggplant. Your detail in sewing is fabulous. I have seen some posts of this dress elsewhere and it did NOT look so good. Thank you for posting, I have this pattern and look forward to possibly having time to sew for me.

Thank you, Buttons. This is a fun one to put together. Don't rush it though . . . be patient and it will reward you. Post some pics when you get it done.

You did it I am tired of waiting around on stuff for the sew-a-long I have joined for a new winter coat. Need some instant gratification. I have a wonderful stash of fabrics and this pattern and after your beautiful creation post the desire. I want work on the muslin this weekend. Thank you for the inspiration :-)

Scheri, I can't wait to see how it turns out. Take time with this one! The details need patience. Going to try to make a simple skirt using couture techniques this weekend. I'll post it when it's done. Found the turquoise silk for my daughter. Still waiting for it to arrive. Happy sewing.

Definitely love the dress! Your work is beautiful! (I would also love to have the body FOR this dress...!) classy and elegant. You're going to feel like a million in it!

Thank you! This is a pattern that would work well on more than one body type. It disguises a middle-aged butt quite well.

Such a fun dress to put together. I would suggest using a solid. A print would hide all the details.

Beautiful! This turned out fabulously - so elegant and classic. With the right accessories you can dress it up or dress it down. Love the purple!

Thank you! A friend make earring to match. I've even thought about a leather belt, but that bow just makes it!
