This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Quilting Quickly: Patterns, Techniques & Tips »

Instructions

This is a great project for using up any stray charm packs.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Other

Style: Cute

Materials

Assorted fabrics - 180 5" squares. Sew traditional 9 patch blocks then cut block in half horizontally & vertically. Reassemble the smaller blocks so that no seams match. Sew 4 blocks to a row - total of 5 rows - for 20 block quilt. Add borders, binding, backing, quilt. Add applique or any other decorations you want. This is a fun, easy, creative project.

What was your inspiration?

Jenny Doan from MissouriStar Quilts is a great teacher. I have enjoyed her tutorials and been inspired by her easy creative projects.

What are you most proud of?

Tristen's Garden was made for a little girl who loves bugs. She was thrilled to get her new quilt.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Choose one color for the center block of the first 9 patch block. When this block is cut into 4 sections, the center block fabric will appear in each subsequent block creating an interesting design.

Everytime I use a cotton fabric I take my ruler to the left over & make one 5" slice with the rotary cutter, then cut them into squares. So I now have a big box of srappy charms to start my quilting. I plan on starting with the d9p.

Very nice. I love the bug & flowers applique. It's the perfect touch to the geometrics.

Thank you. I used my AccuCut die cutter with the flower patter & the hear & leaf shapes to make the butterflies.
