This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Quilting Quickly: Patterns, Techniques & Tips »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Casual, Cute, Funky, Retro / Vintage

Materials

100% Cotton fabric from my children's old duvets and clothes

What was your inspiration?

I have began to teach 2 ladies from my church how to quilt and thought the disappearing 9 patch would be a fun and easy block to start with... therefore I had to make a quilt using this technique myself!

I hope to fmq it sometime but I will wait until I feel more confident to use my darning foot on a whole quilt!

What are you most proud of?

Using some of my two daughter's unwanted clothes and duvets from their childhood and as I cut and pieced them together it brought back lovely memories. I am so pleased with how the fabrics have come together.
This quilt will be used for the spare room for my little grand-daughter when she comes to stay:)

I am also pleased with how my mitered corners on the border turned out.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just look through your wardrobes and see what cotton items you are not using and just cut them up! Nothing is safe in my house anymore ;-)

What a lovely idea! Now you'll remember all kinds of things from your daughters' childhood every time you look at this quilt. Makes me wish I hadn't got rid of so much stuff (even though my cupboards are bursting anyway!)!

Pat I was so filled with emotion when I was cutting up dresses, skirts and even pj's never mind the duvet covers. My husband and I started to reminisce about them (now married) how quickly life moves by but the memories are precious. Oh dear getting soppy now ha!
