Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Machine Quilting: Free-Motion & More »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Funky, Retro / Vintage, Cute

Materials

Cotton fabrics, velcro, cushion filler

What was your inspiration?

Getting lots of cushions for my long awaited suite which should be here very soon, hopefully...

And... trying to learn free motion quilting!

What are you most proud of?

I think the cushion with the red border is my best cushion so far... I tried using a stencil and have become confident with the walking foot:)
I am pleased with the 2nd cushion as I did a velcro closing on it as it has a patchword front and back. I also did some fmq using my darning foot on the back it is a bit wobbly but sure.. it is the back of the cushion after all;)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Free Motion Quilting takes practise, practise, practise!!!!
Play about with the 9 patch blocks as you can cut them on the diagonal and cut more than once... just have fun playing with the pieces and see what you come up with!

Wow! These are wonderful. You should post a pic of all of your pillows in your new space. I'd love to see the overall affect. Lovely work!!

I will do when I have them all completed, my daughter Sue has a black sofa and wanted some so I have given some away to her so I am busy making more! I am learning so much though with these small projects which are so easy to work with.

Thanks Zaza for your lovely comment:) The Craftsy page is so tempting I too love to see what others are doing as it is great inspiration. I totally love my walking foot but the darning foot is much harder to master. Looking forward to seeing your quilting:)

You have sure been busy!! I hope to get back to quilting this week. I still have some doll clothes to go but I think I am ready to add some quilting in there too. You have a good sense of what fabrics to put together as well as the colors. I am getting excited as I think about this. I have been working on 2013 block of the month. Have a great week. Time to really get busy.
