One 36-in. strand of mixed gemstone chips and a handful of peacock metallic glass seed beads, plus Beadalon 49-strand beading wire.
What was your inspiration?
Gemstone chip beads are inexpensive, fun to work with, and they usually come in a 36-in. strand. I saw this gemstone chip mix at a bead show and my eye was drawn to it because it was both colorful and sparkly. I let that be my inspiration. I've used chips in various designs, but this time I decided that I could not improve on this random mix and so I just kept on beading until I got to the end. I threw in the occasional peacock metallic glass seed bead just to add a little more "bling" and to add a few inches in length..
What are you most proud of?
I'm most proud of the fact that I have a bright, cheerful, and colorful necklace that can be worn in a variety of different ways and with a variety of different items from my casual wardrobe.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
The best advice I could give applies to this and any other beaded jewelry project -- use a good quality, flexible beading wire. Why would you risk investing precious time and money in any beading project by using anything less than a good quality beading wire? I use only Beadalon or SoftFlex 49-strand beading wire because of its strength and flexibility. As you can tell from the many ways I have shown that this necklace can be worn, the 49-strand beading wire is flexible enough that it can quite literally be tied in knots.
