What materials did you use? Cotton crochet thread, size 10, in 350 yd. (320 m) balls - light brown (4 balls); size 7 (1.65 mm) crochet hook; and a 5/8" diameter curtain rod. The optional tassels are created with embroidery floss attached with 6 mm jump rings.

What are you most proud of? I really like the way this turned out using a modified shell to create the filled square look of filet crochet.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? This is a great project for the intermediate crocheter. In addition to detailed instructions, a graph is also provided for reference. The valance is worked from the top down. The rod pocket is also incorporated into the design. The finished size is 63" wide x 17" long from the rod pocket (not including tassels). Instructions are included to increase the width in 9" increments. This pattern is available for $3.50 and is written in U.S. terms.

I love this. Can I buy this pattern online? Is the length & width adjustable?

Thank you so much! The links to buy the pattern are under Pattern Info above. Instructions are included to increase the width of the valance, but to increase the length, you would need to repeat some of the rows. Since the valance is worked from the top down, you would need to figure how much of the design you wanted to repeat before you started.

I am starting to make this and I wondered if you used the shell pattern as it is written. I find the pattern hardly shows with the dc 2 ch dc....I'm thinking of filling it in with more dc. What did you do?

I did use the dc, ch 2, dc for the shells which makes a very subtle design, but you can certainly add more dc if you'd like for a more bold pattern.
