Instructions

The pattern recommends using a Weight 6 (super bulky/super chunky) yarn. I used two Fine yarns, each doubled. The size yarn doesn't matter as much as the hook and gauge.

Difficulty:

Category: Crocheting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Mod, Funky, Traditional, Retro / Vintage, Whimsical, Hipster

Materials

Brookfarm Alpaca in Jet Black (www.brookfarmalpaca.com) and Alpenglow Yarn Lusty Goat in Au Naturel (www.alpenglowyarn.com); both yarns were used doubled with a size N hook.

What was your inspiration?

I had these two beautiful yarns and wanted to make something REALLY nice for myself in black and white. Christmas gift crochet burnout!
This pattern was just introduced in a naming contest. The most common name was Harlequin, but the Diamond in the Rough won. It turned out even better than I imagined.

What are you most proud of?

Being willing to spend $100 on yarn for a gift for myself. We've got to treat ourselves, crocheters!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Try different color combinations; I think it will be stunning!
Yellow & black?
Orange and gold?
Brown and tan?
I will definitely be making another one!
Also - I did not end off each color after every row, just dropped & picked up. It makes for one less attractive spot in the scarf, but hey, everybody has a back-of-the-neck, right!?

Like your suggestion for not ending each row, but dropping & picking up, makes for less weaving in and I like that! Yes we need to spend more for ourselves, I'm just not quite there yet, but you have given me the push for another step. Thanks.
