What was your inspiration?
This was based on a pattern given by Wendy Butler Berns in the above listed Craftsy online course.
What are you most proud of?
When I finished the fabric piecing, I realized that simply using browns and tans for the ground wasn't enough to illustrate a desert setting. So I decided to add Jacquard Lumiere fabric paint to give the illusion of sand. I machine quilted various winds in the sky and painted those quilt lines as well, to illustrate air movement.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
This project is manageable, and totally worth doing. I learned a huge amount of information that I have been able to translate into other quilts that I am doing, pictoral and otherwise. Because it is so clearly explained, it is easy to take baby steps on this project and experiement with techniques you may have otherwise been intimidated by.
