Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Retro / Vintage, Classic

Materials

I used my own pattern, the Derby Dress, which is a fun summer dress and is available at my website! See the link above. I sewed this up in a gorgeous navy and white cotton lawn with solid navy for the straps, collar, and belt. It's super soft and swingy. Perfect for summer!

What was your inspiration?

I picked up this fabric while on holiday in Paris and wanted something classic but still fun.

What are you most proud of?

Making it on the fly while on holiday with none of my usual tools!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

This is a perfect pattern for an advanced beginner or a more experienced seamstress looking for a quick project. There are two styles, with mix and match elements to customize each version you make!

Love the vintage look of your dress, the contrasting collar really works well.

Beautiful! I would love to try it as a blouse as opposed to a dress. I just don't wear dresses anymore. The color and fabric choices are right on.

Thanks! This could be good for a top, but it's very full, so you'd likely consider bringing it in a bit, but let me know if you try it!

Thanks Scheri! I think it's pretty impossible for me to design something without having it feel vintage :)

Love this, Christine! I'll have to sew my own version once I'm done with the *crazy* prep for course filming! Great, great job on your course, too.

Thanks Meg! I'm a total fan of your work and teach some of your projects in LA! Stoked you're doing a class here too! I'm sure it will be awesome!
