I have never made a bag or installed a zipper before. However, the clear instructions and helpful pictures in this pattern, along with a few youtube videos, got me through. I made two bags for me and my husband. After reading some great reviews on this pattern, I used quilting cotton with decor bond for the body, home decor fabric with fusible vinyl for the bottom, nursery fabric for the front decorative pocket, and added a satin lining for the inside top and bottom to cover the duck canvas. I added 3 inches of depth to the bag and made his strap a little longer. I also changed the orientation of the back popup pocket. The instructions were clear and mostly easy to follow (for a complete newbie). There were some mysteries that resolved itself as you follow the directions. We've just taken these bags on a weekend trip and they held up beautifully. I love this pattern and will probably make a couple more bags with different materials just for fun.

First bags and first zippers? I am so impressed. Your bags look fantastic. The back pockets are absolutely perfect. I am so glad you enjoyed the pattern and that you shared your results here.
