Denim squares quilt

Instructions

Since this was a first quilt for me I wanted to keep it simple. I used 8" squares of denim and added patches to holes etc. and did a little decorative stitching around the edges. Patches were put on using heat'n bond. Our bed is a Queen size and it just covers the top. There are 99 squares in total. I also tied them to keep the batting from slipping during washing. The backing is simply a ...

What was your inspiration?

My inspiration came from our mini vacation to Amish country in St. Jacobs Ontario. We absolutely love the peace and tranquility of their culture - not to mention the many, many beautiful handmade quilts they make and have on display.

Also.. the many, many pairs of old jeans that had accumulated and my unwillingness to throw anything away helped. lol

What are you most proud of?

The fact that I had no assistance for a first endeavor of this size - and the look on my husbands face Christmas morning when he opened it up and realized I had made it just for him.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just take your time and know it doesn't have to be perfect. if it's made with love behind it - it'll be as perfect as it needs to be.

I love the quilt! My first was also a denium. I did the rail fence pattern--won't do that again with denium! Next one will be squares. I like the use of pockets, patches--I may also throw in some zippers and labels. hmmm, endless possibilities with denium jeans!

Thank you so much! It's one of my favorites to snuggle up with that's for sure. It's super heavy, but also super soft with the fleece on the backing. I think I just about have enough old jeans saved up to start another!! :0)

I actually saved up several pair of my husbands old jeans that were full of holes and stains. Then I just added patches with contrastin denim where need be and stitched around it to add some flare. I cut 7.5" squares and there were 99 of them total.
