What was your inspiration?

I live on a farm so I needed a hardworking pair of jeans that will take me through the intensive summer months.

What are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of the hip pockets I drafted myself. They look pretty darn good for never having done them before! More details in my blog post: http://artandneedlework.blogspot.com/2013/02/2113-finished-project-jeans.html

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It took me a very long time to finally bite the bullet and make my own pair of jeans. It is a whole different ball game to a sewer who has only done blouses and skirts her whole life. It is a real commitment to do pants or jeans, especially when considering all the time you need to spend perfecting the fit. But it is so worth it in the end when you have a tried-and-true pant pattern to use over and over. Because, really, once you have pattern that doesn't need altering, you can whip up a pair in no time! I recommend Simplicity 2860 as a good pattern to try at the beginning. I find the pattern to be really basic and that is what you need when starting out. The pattern doesn't have enough fitting instructions by any means, but if you search sewing blogs (like AFashionableStitch.com), or sign up for a Craftsy class, I'm sure you will be able to get the fit you're looking for. Just go for it!
